Drawing is a medium that has played a crucial role since the beginning of time. However, contemporary drawing has only been fully recognised as an artistic practice by the art world in the past couple decades. Today, drawing is regarded as an autonomous art form, reflected in large scale exhibitions such as a recent ‚On Line’ show at MoMA, New York (2010) and large art fairs, like DRAWING NOW PARIS and DDessin, which solely focus on drawing. Phaidon’s major publications Vitamin D: New Perspectives in Drawing Volume I (2005) and Volume II (2013) also indicate that drawing seems to be on the rise.
