Interview with Dyana Nusseibeh, Director of ArtInternational Istanbul
I want to start out by talking a little about how and why Art- International Istanbul Art Fair was founded. Can you give me some background on how ArtInternational Istanbul began and what led you to establish the Fair? Did you feel that there was something lacking in the scene at the time that made you want to do your own thing?
This Project came about as a result of a partnership between three principal founders; Sandy Angus, co-founder of Art Hong Kong and Chairman of Montgomery, and Turkish partners Huseyin and Yesim Avunduk of Fiera Milano Interteks. They decided that the timing was right for an international, high-end fair to take place in the city. Aside from the obvious demographic and geographic advantages, key factors included the increasing number of Turkish collectors and galleries, the flourishing cultural initiatives in Istanbul and the immense appeal and draw of the city internationally.
