ARTISTS FROM TURKEY AT GWANGJU BIENNALE

Didem Özbek, Pınar Öğrenci and Halil Altindere were part of the exhibition ‘Facing Phantom Borders’ curated by Gridthiya Gaweewong, while İnci Eviner’s video work titled ‘Nursing Modern Fall’ was part of the exhibition ‘Faultlines’ curated by Yeon Shim Chung & Yeewan Koon at this year’s 12th edition of Gwangju Biennale titled ‘Imagined Borders’ on view from 7 September until 11 November 2018.

As a city of art and culture, Gwangju and Gwangju Biennale Foundation host Gwangju Biennale established in 1995. Gwangju Biennale, founded in memory of the spirit of the 1980 civil uprising against the repression of the Gwangju Democratization Movement, is Asia’s oldest and most prestigious biennial of contemporary art. Under the helm of previous curators which include Kerry Brougher, Sukwon Chang, Okwui Enwezor, Charles Esche, Hou Hanru, Honghee Kim, Yongwoo Lee, Youngchul Lee, Kwangsoo Oh, Wankyoung Sung, Harald Szeemann, Nancy Adajania, Wassan Al-Khudhairi, MamiKataoka, Sunjung Kim, Carol Yinghua Lu, and Alia Swastika, Gwangju Biennale has established itself as one of the highlights of the international contemporary art biennale circuit.
