The art on show at this gallery can vary from understated prints and drawings to outlandish sculpture and installations. The gallery's other Istanbul venue is in the upmarket district of Maçka, maintaining its identity as a successful older brother to the city's more excitable art venues.
Galeri Nev was founded by architects Ali Artun and Haldun Dostoglu in Ankara in 1984, and its Istanbul branch was set up after three years in 1987. Since then, Galeri Nev has been in the forefront of the contemporary Turkish art scene with an uninterrupted series of exhibitions.
In the early 1990’s, while still continuing to showcase the established masters of Modern Turkish Art, the gallery has taken on a group of younger and budding artists. These constitute the core of Galeri Nev’s artists since the year 2000. Continuing collaboration with them from the early stages in their careers boosted their creative development and helped secure their places in the national and international art scene with a devoted following. In 2011, after 27 years of activity, it is still the main aim of Galeri Nev to introduce and promote young and challenging artists.
